LOVE TILL DEATH
He
swore he'd love her till death. They got married and afterwards sought to have
a child.
First year, second year, third year, no child was forthcoming. His mother was on his tail to get another wife and bear her grandchildren, but he remained faithful to his bride and didn't yield.
Fourth year, Fifth year, Sixth year still no child. They had been to several hospitals and done several checkups, still the doctors had assured them they were OK. Some even advised them to be more prayerful.
And so they moved from one prayer house to the other, praying and hoping for a miracle. At this point, his mother had washed her hands off of him.
"What's a first son without an heir" she had said.
Still he stood by his wife assuring her that he would love her till the death.
The seventh year passed and then the eight, ninth, tenth and then in the eleventh year of their marriage, she woke up one morning with a fever. She rushed to the bathroom where she threw up. He was by her side as she vomited continuously.
They had to go to the hospital where it was brought to their attention that she was expecting a child.
At first he was shocked then he regained himself, she smiled at the news as they both hugged. It was indeed a day of tears and joy for them.
He quickly announced the news to his mother who wasted no time in coming over to his house. He was once again the first son she expected of him. He had already made plans of the name he would give the child, had prepared the room, bought the clothes and called out to his people to be ready to celebrate with him once the child was born.
The day of delivery came even faster than they had hoped and as he paced back and forth in the hospital, the doctor came out to inform him of a very shocking news.
"I'm sorry to inform you Steve, but some complications arose during the delivery, due to this we would only be able to save either mother or child.. we would need you to fill this form to know your decision"
He looked at the doctor and then took the form calmly as he signed it. If he was devastated by the report, it never showed.
The doctor took the form then proceeded into the delivery room. After an hour, he emerged from the room as he walked towards Steve.
"Congratulations man, its a boy!"
He hugged the doctor excited at the news.
"Thank you" he said "Thank you very much"
"You are welcome" he said "what are friends for."
He went in to see the child, he couldn't believe he was finally a father as he held the little one in his arms.
He handed the baby back to the nurses as they vacated the room leaving him alone with his wife lying lifeless on the bed.
He came close to her as he caressed her cheeks...
"Thank you my love, thank you for giving me my heir. I may be sterile, but I definitely I'm no fool."
